I took the light rail from Santa Clara into San Jose downtown yesterday evening.
This is Silicon Valley. One of the world's virtual gold mines.
There was human excrement on the train platform. Homeless people all over St. James Park and more in store front entrances.
Folks are picking through garbage bins. Easily 40% of the retail space is empty.
It may sound like I'm exaggerating. I am not. Some blocks in Seattle downtown are like this. San Francisco is bad.
To a visitor, it's apparent that American cities are broken.
I've seen this decline in Seattle in 3-4 month increments over the last 12 years that I've been traveling back and forth. I was surprised to see San Jose in that shape.
Some people may have voted for Trump also because of this. Someone who cleans up the mess. I fear he's going to make it worse.
